This Floranext's EMV reader solution is for our Stripe users on our iPad POS App.
Message from Stripe about their update:
"The Chipper card reader’s firmware needs to be updated before Dec 31, 2021 in order to continue accepting EMV chip and contactless payments.
We’re reaching out to notify you of a mandatory firmware update for your BBPOS Chipper 2X BT devices. The update is necessary to allow you to continue accepting payments after Dec 31, 2021. "
Why is this firmware update needed:
"The card encryption keys in the Chipper card reader’s firmware will expire after Dec 31, 2021, resulting in all EMV (chip + contactless) cards on these devices failing payments. To avoid any disruption, you’ll need to upgrade the device’s firmware before this date."
How to update your reader through your iPad:
Luckily this is a painless process and should only take a few minutes overall. Please watch this video example and follow along with the steps below:
Steps:
Open Settings Menu and go to Settings
Next go to Hardware
The tap the green "Test Reader" button.
If device is connected, it will show a popup message reading "Device is on." Tap Ok.
There may be a pause, then another popup requesting a firmware update for your stripe device will open.
Tap Yes and wait. A loading icon will appear and may take a few minutes to complete.
Once the Loading Icon goes away, your device should start flashing with four blue square lights and a yellow/orange light.
After the device stops flashing, the update is complete. You may confirm by again tapping the "Test Reader" button. The second popup show now instead read "Device has latest software version."
